We'd all probably agree common sense is a good thing. Curiously many say it's rare, or not employed.
I think one of the biggest enemies to common sense, is common practice.
Common practice blinds, stops thinking, stops questioning, it becomes a tradition, a law, and maybe even a "commandment". Common sense shrivels and dies because common practice is easier to follow. But then someone comes along and says "Hey that common practice defies common sense" And he and his view get labeled a heresy.
No wonder traditions of men are warned about in scripture. If we should be weary of anything it should be "common practices" in our religion. Those thoughtless traditions could be taking light and truth away from us. D&C 93:39 "And that wicked one cometh and taketh away light and truth, through disobedience, from the children of men, and because of the tradition of their fathers."
Some of the most common religious practices or assumptions defy common sense.
